Within the area of  Białowieża National Park forest systems are predominant. Out of 166 plant communities identified in the Polish part of Białowieża Forest, within the Park area 74 plant communities were specified : 22 forests, 2 brushwoods, 4 water plant communities, dozens of meadow and peat bog plant communities, and only few communities of synanthropic plants. The Park area preserved the spatial arrangement and vegetation zones typical for the post glacial plains in north-east Poland. The most characteristic forest system within the Park is varied with a regard to the tree species in the oak-hornbeam-lime forest with maple trees, spruces, ash trees and elm trees as well, called Tilio-carpinetum.
